General Note: | Cover has a paper pocket with 6 loose cards. “Nano Publishing is above all about engagement. This print-based course at OCAD University suggests that publication provides an exemplary tool or commentary on contemporary culture. Students make editions of artists’ multiples and zines as a material excuse for activating community and create publics. We intersect with whatever is happening culturally at the time of the course - suggesting, conversing, subverting, and participating in the world. We’ve done small press book fairs and street festivals. We’ve held parties in bookstores and installed art in windows. This year, we went to North Adams, Massachusetts to create a performance as a reaction to the 2012 exhibition ‘Oh, Canada.’ It set a new, exciting precedent for the course. How far can we push ourselves into new territories? How can we engage with art and design in excess of just looking at the walls, or compositing on a screen? And how is publication uniquely equipped to address these ideas?”--Page 3. |
