Minimetal 11 mantras

Summary: Since 1994, Nik Emch and Laurent Goei have formed the Zurich artist duo Minimetal. They are musicians and painters as well as sculptural musicians, crosswise. They realize musical-visual art projects, play in the underground and in the white spaces of galleries. Their "sound sculptures" are a tearing stream of sounds and images, with guitar, drums and voice. A stream that has enthralled the audience in a mesmerizing atmosphere for 21 years. Minimetal is punk, rock, art and, above all, one: a life project. At the beginning of the nineties, Emch and Goei composed eleven songs, inspired by the then new musical style of grunge with Screaming Trees, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, from the first songs of Kyuss, the fathers of the Doom, the noise pop of Sonic Youth and Velvet Underground . Minimetal stayed with these eleven songs - they became their eleven mantras. From the very beginning, Minimetal has shunned the Rockshow's usual battlefield and, with few exceptions, had no stage concerts. This denial has given the artists the space to explore new paths for performances and phonograms. These paths have always led to the art world and now to the artist's book. Through Minimetal meticulous recording of every rock performance in sound and image is a collection, which is now found in book form. MINIMETAL 11 MANTRAS is a fast-response, fast-response (QR) code, a two-dimensional code that is scanned with the smartphone to get directly to video and audio content on the Internet. The book becomes a phonogram. MINIMETAL 11 MANTRAS is not only a time journey through the total art work of Minimetal but also a journey through sound quality. For sound recordings from VHS or Tape it is wonderful to hear the noise of the time. From CD, everything sounds as if it was recorded yesterday.
