An edited collection of essays on community engagement with the arts in small cities, and the related politics. The book is divided into three sections. Each of the four essays in Section One, Issues in Community Engagement, deals with a different issue: long-term, egalitarian participation of artists in community; cultural indicators; the effects of global economic and political changes on the arts; and dilemmas raised by community-engaged performance. Section Two, Recollections of Engagement, brings together a genre-crossing narrative, observations of a poetry night; a meditation on walking, a photojournal of a walk and two poems. Section Three, Case Studies, contains seven analytical articles on successes and failures of community engagement with the arts. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
