The Fat Wars (Part 1 of 2)

Summary: In 1978, Susie Orbach wrote her ground-breaking book Fat is a Feminist Issue. She hoped that children growing up then might be free of the disabling body-image and eating problems that had so beset her generation. But despite the inroads of feminism, women's obsession with weight did not decrease over the next two decades, and men became preoccupied by body image as well. Diet books, foods and pills proliferated, and so did punishing exercise programs. Yet paradoxically, North Americans became fatter. Jill Eisen explores why this is so.
