Carrying Our Children

Summary: When we put a child on a school bus we are sure that everything has been done to ensure a safe journey, but school bus companies operate as if this was too much to ask. In fact some buses are in such bad condition it isn't even safe for other vehicles to share the road with them. Spot-checks across the country found that an astonishing 40 to 90 percent of school buses failed basic mechanical safety tests. Who is responsible and what can be done about it? Original broadcast date: January 20, 1998.
