Arctic Refuge : The Struggle Continues

Summary: Arctic Refuge visits the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, a desolate and beautiful landscape where oil development continues to threaten the livelihood of a people and a species. Native people of the area explain that development will be destructive to their traditional way of life which relies on the integrity of this vast wilderness. Oil lobbyists say there is a rich oil field under the caribou calving grounds and they are determined to see it developed. Will this jewel in the crown of North American wilderness survive political infighting in Washington? The debate has been raging for more than a decade and once again shows political decision-makers feeling the heat.
