Plastic world / herausgegeben von Martina Weinhart = edited by Martina Weinhart.
Plastic is a collective term for synthetic materials, which have radically altered art and society in a short period of time. The exhibition 'Plastic World' is dedicated to what is today a central symbol and symptom of our mass society. It therefore opens up a broad panorama of the artistic use and assessment of plastic that reflects the respective social context: from the euphoria of pop culture in the 1960s to the futuristic influence of the space age and the trash works of Nouveau R©♭alisme, architectural utopias, and experiments with material properties, to the ecocritical positions of recent years. With around 100 works, 'Plastic World' offers a true cosmos, and thus a hitherto unique and complex overview of the material history of synthetic substances in visual art from 1960 until today.
