Sturtevant (1924–2014) was an artist known for appropriating the work of her peers, such as Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and Frank Stella.  Sturtevant: Double Trouble is a catalogue for the first major retrospective of the artist in the US, which was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in late 2014 and early 2015.  The catalogue features a historical essay by the curator Peter Eleey, which provides a survey of Sturtevant's work and its reception from the 1960s to the present.  Also featured is a 2007 interview with Sturtevant, Bruce Hainley, and Michael Lobel (friends and colleagues of the artist), as well as an exhibition history and bibliography.  Eleey's essay is largely biographical, though it also offers a contextualization of Sturtevant's work in relation to the art of the 1960s and 1970s.  It does not venture into a contextual history beyond the art historical.  The book provides a good introduction to Sturtevant's work and offers a number of high quality reproductions. Summing Up: Recommended. All readership levels.
