Dream visions : the art of Alanis Obomsawin / edited by Peter O'Brien.
Alanis Obomsawin is a member of the Abenaki Nation, born in 1932 in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and raised in Odanak (Québec) from the age of six months, where she learned Abenaki history, legends, and songs. At school she rebelled against bullying, racism, and euro-centrism, which helped inspire her to become an artist and storyteller. Obomsawin is a prolific visual artist, known for her engravings and prints, which she exhibits internationally, including in retrospectives at Festival internationale de fime de femmes de Créteil (2005), the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts (2019), and in Alanis Obomsawin: Lifework, a major survey at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin (2022). -- Adapted from back of book.
